Bel (Digital Audio) Ltd., a UK manufacturer of high quality equipment for broadcast and studio environments, has announced the launch of their new high definition in-rack monitoring range for broadcast applications.

The expanded Bel Broadcast Monitor (BM) range offers a choice of four new audio and video/audio monitors specifically designed for seamless integration within both HD and SD environments, whilst providing comprehensive monitoring facilities in a way that is both logical and intuitive.

The BM-AV2-8SHD is a 2U high-quality video/audio monitor, capable of monitoring both HD/SD video and multi-channel audio sources. The BM-AV2-8SHD provides 4 video inputs, 2 auto-detecting SD composite (PAL/NTSC) inputs and a pair of auto-detecting HD/SD SDI inputs.

The BM-AV2-8SHD accepts 8 analogue audio inputs, 4 AES pairs, in addition to SDI-embedded audio channels from any group. The selected inputs are displayed on 8 high-resolution multi-coloured bargraphs.  Two high quality and magnetically shielded speakers are mounted on the front panel, providing high-SPL audio reproduction. A limiter circuit is included to prevent speaker damage.

Either speaker can monitor the sum of any combination of inputs, while AES and analogue outputs of the selected monitor sources are provided on the rear panel providing connectivity to additional down-stream equipment.

Following Bel’s commitment to intuitive user interfaces, selection of monitor sources is made directly from the front panel rotary controls and on-screen display, making operation extremely quick and simple.

The BM-A2-E8SHD is a 2U high-quality 8 channel audio monitor, capable of monitoring both discrete HD/SD multi-channel audio, and decoding Dolby® E / Dolby® Digital sources. The BM-A2-E8SHD accepts 2xSDI (with active loop-through) and 2xAES sources, and automatically detects between SD or HD video, displaying the video format on the LCD display. This eliminates the need for user involvement in selection of the appropriate SDI format. 8 demuxed audio channels can be selected directly from front panel rotary controls; making operation extremely simple. An integral audio mix system enables any demuxed audio channel to be mixed on either, or both speakers, whilst maintaining a constant output level.

A Dolby decoder is included within the BM-A2-E8SHD as standard. When engaged it can decode both Dolby® E or Dolby® Digital material from either the AES inputs or from an SDI embedded audio source. Eight Dolby mix-down algorithms are also available directly from the front panel, via a rotary control.

All eight high-resolution tricolour bar graphs are provided with user assignable ballistics and colour break points.

The BM-A2-E8SHD+ includes all the functionality of the BM-A2-E8SHD with the addition of providing 8 channels of analogue and digital AES outputs that are sourced from the channels selected on the bargraph meters. This enables the BM-A2-E8SHD+ to provide decoded Dolby channels for connection to external surround monitoring systems for example. It is also possible to control the analogue output level to external monitors via the front panel volume control.
